Obituary

Bernice “DeeCee” Motley was born to Shirley and Harold Walton, Sr. on January 4, 1933 in Clarksville, Oklahoma. She was later reared by her maternal grandmother, Pinky Tucker whom she lovingly referenced to as “Mama.” She often reflected on how Mama had her and her sisters in church every time the church doors were opened. As such DeeCee recognized Christ as her savior at an early age. DeeCee attended Carter G. Woodson School in Tullahassee, Oklahoma and kept it no secret that as a child she “hated” school. Ironically, as an adult, she encouraged her grandchildren to obtain an education. In 1947, DeeCee met and married Eugene “Gene” Horton and together they had one child; Shirley Ann. Following the dissolution of her marriage to Gene in 1952, she was joined in matrimony to Hoy Motley and they were married for forty-four years until his death. Together with Hoy, she later went on to raise her two oldest granddaughters; Donna Woods and Stephanie Parker whom she recognized as her own children. DeeCee was a strong believer in giving to others and she moved into the lives of many that she felt were in need. If she had it and they needed it, she gave it. She often asserted, “That’s how I get my blessings”. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother who had the wisdom and unique knack to give each child in her family their very own customized version of motherly love. Even at the age of eighty-one, several in her family had no reservation in verbally declaring that DeeCee was their best friend. On October 1, 2014 DeeCee was beckoned to her Father’s house to rest. There she joined her mother, Shirley Harris, her father Harold Walton, Sr., her daughter: Shirley McGlory and sister: Lillian Borens. Loved ones that are left behind to celebrate her life include: her sister: Rosie Thomas; her brothers: Harold Walton, Jr. and Clarence Walton; her step-son Herman Motley, Sr.; her granddaughters Donna Woods, Stephanie Parker, Crystal Haynes and LaShon Cooper; fourteen great grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. 1. Jan says:

I am so sorry for your loss. The Bible provides comfort during difficult times. We are promised at 1Corinthians 15:26 that, very soon now, "death will be brought to nothing." Then we have the prospect of being reunited with our loved ones right here on Earth. (John 5:28, 29). I hope this has brought you comfort and hope. Sincerely, Jan
