Obituary

Betty G. Morrow, a long-time resident of the Tulsa area, died Monday, January 16 at Gracewood Health and Rehabilitation in the company of her husband of 64 years, Billy Morrow.

Betty was born January 27, 1932 in Mineral Wells, Texas to Frank Cecil Gambrell and Lula Myrtle (Graham) Gambrell.  She lived in Mineral Wells and in the South Texas town of Freer, graduating from Mineral Wells High School in 1950.  While working at a physician’s office in Mineral Wells she met her husband to be when he brought his brother in for treatment of a work injury. They were married on April, 1952 in her father-in-law’s house in Graford, Texas.

She worked many years for the Corps of Engineers, rising through the ranks to manager of a word processing pool and finally to one of the first female managers over a large group of facility personnel.

She was a long term proponent of desegregation and equal opportunity in the workplace as well as the community, advocating for those she managed as well as others.  She loved traveling, arts and crafts, family Christmases and spending time in Las Vegas.  Early in retirement she and her husband moved into a retirement community, spending time assisting their neighbors with travel to medical appointments, help with meals, assistance with paperwork and red tape, and companionship.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two beloved yorkies, Herme and Dite. She is survived by her husband, three sons, Greg Morrow of Texas, Erwin Morrow of Ohio and Brad Morrow of Oklahoma, and six grandchildren Melissa Morrow of Oklahoma, Logan Morrow of Florida, Matt Morrow of California, Catherine Morrow of Texas, Haley Morrow of Oklahoma and Harrison Morrow of Oklahoma.

Visitation will be Thursday January 19 at Butler-Stumpff Funeral Home, 2103 E 3rd Street, Tulsa Oklahoma, followed by services at Noon. For burial she will return to Mineral Wells. Grave side services will be Monday, January 23 at 1pm at Woodland Park Cemetery, 2600 Hwy 281 South.

The family would like to send special thanks to the staff of Cura-HPC Hospice for the care and assistance they provided during her final days.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions in Betty’s name to First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa Oklahoma.
