Obituary

On September 2, 1937 in rural Okmulgee County a fifth child was born to Albert Hill, Sr. and Erma Elliott Hill. They named him Billie. Billie’s early education was at Lone Tree School and Wheatley High School in Boynton, Oklahoma. Upon leaving Wheatley, Billie enlisted in the United States Air Force serving honorably both stateside and overseas.

Bill’s love for learning took him on several educational journeys. He attended Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee, Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and Oklahoma City Junior College where his studies included computer programming and business. He would later attend Langston University obtaining a degree in Criminal Justice.

Over the years, Bill had a variety of occupations including highway and bridge development with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, personal horse trainer for Celestial Horse Farms in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City Public Schools Transportation Department and The Petroleum Club. After moving to Tulsa, he began work at Oaks Country Club where he was a favorite of the staff and the club members.

Bill was very civic minded as was evidenced in his work in voter registration drives with the Tulsa County Democratic Party. He was also a member of the AARP Northwest Tulsa Chapter No. 4411. After a number of years as a member, he served as President for more than 10 years serving faithfully even though his health was declining.

Bill transitioned from this earth on Friday, April 12. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert, Sr. and Erma Elliott Hill and brothers Alfred Hill and Winston Hill. Survivors include three sons Bill Hill, Galen Duane Smith and Dexter Owens; four daughters Eunice Hill Owens (Mike), Elizabeth Hill (Sherri), Christina Lattimore and Koweda Inez Marie Smith; four brothers Albert Hill, Jr., Allen Hill, Sr., John Hill and Ray Hill; six sisters Elreatha Lee, Doris Hill, Joyce Baird, Carlene Gilchrist, JoAnn Fennell and Anita Hill; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

  2. Bill was a wonderful volunteer for AARP Oklahoma and we were very saddened by the news of his passing. Early in his AARP volunteer career, he was a hard worker and was always willing to go the extra mile to help out. He as soon as last year, he came to events and meetings with his oxygen in tow and willing to do what ever he could. He will be greatly missed. He
