Obituary

Bonnie Jean Clinton Nutting was born on August 7, 1931, in Oklahoma City at St. Anthony’s Hospital to Lester Dow Clinton and Joy Haskell Lassiter Clinton who both preceded her in death.  They had two wonderful children, Bonnie Jean, and her younger brother William “Billy” Edward Clinton who also preceded her in death.  Bonnie passed from this life into the arms of Jesus, on February 7, 2025 after a illness.  She was ninety-three and a half years old.

Bonnie lived in several places while growing up.  She lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lexington, Kentucky, Chicago Illinois., Tulsa, Oklahoma, Springfield Missouri, and finally came to live in Tulsa, Oklahoma once again.  Her father was a manager for Swift and Company Ice Cream and Dairy and was transferred a few times while she was younger. Bonnie “loved” ice cream, and her daddy made sure to bring home a sweet surprise from time to time.

Bonnie graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1948. During high school, she was a member of the Select St. Cecelia Choir.  After high school, Bonnie attended Tulsa Business College and worked her way through school in the daycare on their campus. She loved children.  After graduating business school, Bonnie worked as a part-time church secretary, and was a full-time secretary at Fuller Brush Company, Jones and Laughlin Steel Company, and Barton Construction Company.

One of Bonnie’s great loves was music.  She started taking piano lessons when she was a little girl, and continued through high school.  Bonnie attended the Tulsa University Music School, and was a member of the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association for many years.  Bonnie had a private piano studio for over 25 years where she was blessed to teach hundreds of piano students.  Her piano students were her “kids” before she had a family and even afterwards.

She was a member of Tulsa White City Baptist Church, now Braden Park Baptist Church for over 65 years.  She helped with the children’s choir programs, and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union. Through the years, she was a faithful member of several wonderful Sunday School classes where she made many lifelong friends.

Bonnie married the love of her life Stephen A. Nutting in 1969 in Tulsa.  He also preceded her in death.  They had two daughters.

Bonnie is survived by her two daughters Shelley and husband David Smith, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Tawnya and husband Moises Cervantes, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and considered daughter Roxie and husband Jim Odor of Disney, Oklahoma.  Grandchildren, Derek Smith and wife Evan of Eufaula, Zachary Smith of Muskogee, Celeste Page and Gideon Page, of Broken Arrow, Moises Cervantes Jr. and Matteo Cervantes, also of Broken Arrow. Great-Grandchildren, Josiah Smith, Levi Smith, and Judah Smith of Eufaula, Oklahoma, and a host of many loving family and friends.
