Obituary

Reverend Bruce Maxfield Clary was born in Chicago Illinois on July 30, 1939. Bruce graduated from Central High School, Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1961 with degrees in Philosophy, Religion and the Fine Arts. He earned his Bachelor of Divinity degree at Meadville/Lombard Theological School at the University of Chicago, where he studied under Paul Tillich and Henry Nelson Wieman. He interned at King’s Chapel in Boston. Bruce was ordained at his home church, All Souls Unitarian Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. Bruce served as minster at Unitarian churches in Oklahoma, Ohio, Vermont and Massachusetts. His career included a variety of awards and special recognitions. Bruce is Minister Emeritus of First Church and Parish in Dedham, Massachusetts. After retiring, Bruce and Dottie moved to Tulsa and continued to spend summers on Cape Cod, maintaining friendships across the country. Retirement allowed Bruce the opportunity to paint, one of his many hidden talents. Bruce died on September 15, 2011. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Jane Maxfield Clary, and his wife Dorothy. He is survived by his sister Barbara Clary Martin and her husband Steve, a son David and his wife Beth, three granddaughters, Emma, Lauren and Catherine, a niece and two nephews. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, September 22, 10:00am, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Meadville/Lombard Theological School, University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois.
