Obituary

Catherine Mary McClanahan, 81, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away June 24, 2016 at her home. Catherine was a meat wrapper for Safeway. She was born May 28, 1935 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to Tony J. and C. Cooke Oldani. Catherine M. McClanahan moved from Chelsea, Massachusetts to Tulsa in the early 1950’s with her husband who was in construction. She went to work for Safeway Stores Inc. in 1955 as a meat wrapper but continued being the perfect homemaker. Catherine was fascinated with U.F.O.’s, so much that she became the secretary for the Mutual UFO Newsletter of America. She spent many weekends out of state at conferences where she brushed shoulders with other enthusiasts such as Dan Akroyd and Travis Walton. Catherine loved to travel and went on many ocean cruises, frequently bringing her children along. As she got older her tastes died down and she was content going fishing and boating, but still indulged herself with an occasional Alaskan Cruise. She maintained friendships with most of old Safeway crews which showed how family oriented she was. The one thing about her that was always consistent was her sense of humor, which is what almost everyone will remember her by. In fact, up until the last few hours of her life her humor prevailed. My last memory and laugh was just a few hours before her death. I was encouraging her to finish an Ensure and held it up in front of her and said “you need to finish this!” A small grin appeared on her face and she replied “that’s what she said!” I believe that sums up her humor.
