Obituary

Charlene Ann (Krametbauer) Janak Christ passed away November 15, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Charlene was born on April 30, 1945, to Charles and Irene (Zimmerman) Krametbauer, in Shiner, Texas. Charlene graduated from St. Ludmila’s Academy in 1963 as Valedictorian of her class.

 

Charlene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic LIfe Organization, and the KJZT Society #53 of Wied.

 

Charlene married Blaise A. Janak on November 30, 1963 at Saint Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner Texas.  After almost 20 years of marriage, she was widowed on August 30, 1984.

 

She found love for a second time when Charlene married Charles H. Christ on January 11, 1986 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, Texas.

 

Charlene is survived by her husband, Charles, one (1) son, Timothy Janak and his wife, Carmen White Janak, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one (1) daughter, Tammy Hastings, of San Antonio, Texas, one (1) sister Claudia Tousek, of Austin, Texas; six (6) grandchildren, Rory Bandow (Faith), Skyler Brandow, all of San Antonio, Texas, Taylre Janak, of Dallas, Texas, Jaden Janak, of Austin, Texas, Blake and Huston Janak, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and five nieces, Robin Francis (Joe), Beth Cantu (Adam), Rhonda Garcia, Rachel Dierschke Trejo (Shorty), and Debra Wenske (Jeremy), one brother-in-law, Alfred (Fritz) Christ and a host of other family and friends.

 

Charlene is preceded in death by her first husband, Blaise A. Janak, her parents, Charles and Irene Krametbauer, her parents-in-law, Paul P. and Mary Janak, her sister Cynthia Dierschke, her son-in-law, William A. Brandow, brothers-in-law, Edward “Ed” Leo and Lawrence Janak.

 

Charlene was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She spent many days working alongside her first husband, Blaise, in operating Janak’s Drive-In, and her second husband, Charles, in his gun and firearm business. She took great pride in furnishing and keeping a meticulous home and had many collections which gave her home the appearance of museum. She kept hummingbird feeders outside her kitchen window that provided comfort and peace.  She loved her twin children and grandchildren and they were her pride and joy even as she served as their favorite bingo caller at many family gathering.  She was an excellent cook with specialties such as made to order oatmeal, gingerbread cookies, milkshakes, pigs in the blanket, and biscuits.  For her children and grandchildren, her home was a constant source of happiness.  She was adept at computer skills and social media as she taught herself to connect with family and friends through the use of technology.  She researched and compiled family histories and made albums for family members.  Also, she was a caregiver to her parents in later years.  She enjoyed taking her parents to visit Tammy and family in Germany and touring many of the European countries including visiting the Eifel Tower, the Louvre, castles, the Czech Republic, and riding the gondolas in Venice.

 

A memorial mass, gathering, and internment will be held in Spring, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hallettsville, Texas.
