Obituary

Claude was born April 1, 1937 to Claude and Katherine Herron in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended Tulsa Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School with the class of 1956. He was joined in holy matrimony to Dorothy Jeane Stokes and to this union 3 children were raised: Tammy Sharlay, Willard Darnell and Nicole Latrice. He and Dorothy also raised Charles, Layla, Billy Kenneth and younger sister Patricia after the passing of their parents. Clause was employed with the city of Tulsa where he retired after 33 years of service. He was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for refuge department. Claude loved people and joyfully helped anyone that he could. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with family and traveling. Most of all he loved driving across the country. Claude joined Love Tabernacle Church of God un Christ where he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ under the leadership of Supt. Tony R. Maxville Sr. He was a natural comedian and there was never a dull moment with him. Some of his favorite phrases were “how do you kill a coon?” “by the light of the moon.” If you asked him what was going on his response would be “Oh nothing, just laying by the root of the tree.” Or “Just sittin’ by the dock of the bay.” His words of advice to his nephews and grand sons who played football was “If you get knocked down next time throw dirt in their face.” Claude’s parents Claude and Katherine, his wife Dorothy, his brothers Harold and Kenneth and grandson Willard Darnell Smith Jr all preceded him in death. Claude leaves to cherish his memories his children: Tammy (Michael), Willard and Nicole. Along with his brothers Glendie, Roger and Troy (Patricia). He also leaves behind his 8 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and relatives that will miss him greatly.Services will be held on Monday April 23, 2018 at Lifeline Outreach Ministries at 11:00 a.m.Visitation will be held at Butler-Stumpff Funeral Home on Saturday April 21, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. & on Sunday April 22, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
