Obituary

Cpl Lione “Pete” Peterson, 80, resident of Claremore, OK, died Friday, May 18, 2012 with his family at his side. Pete was born on July 5, 1931 in Black River Falls, WI to Hazel and Edward M. Peterson. His childhood was spent in Black River Falls. He loved to play basketball and baseball and was on his high school team. After graduating from Black River Falls High School in 1949, Pete enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Pete served with the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines Abel Company during the Korean War. He was captured in October 1952 in a battle of an area known as the bloody “Hook.” Pete was the first Upper Midwest soldier to return after release from North Korea. His many friends lost were never forgotten. Pete married Delores Larson in Taylor, WI, her hometown, on June 15, 1953. He worked with office business machine systems until his retirement. Pete and Delores moved to Claremore, OK in 1994 to be by family. Pete was a loving husband, Dad, and Grandpa. He loved to laugh and make jokes. He loved family gatherings, boating, and fishing. He was a Veteran advocate; a lifetime member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War, Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Delores, his parents, a sister, Iola Casper, and son-in-law Gary Hohenstein. He is survived by his three daughters: Shelley Curry and husband Terry of Rio Rancho, NM, Marsha Hohenstein of Claremore, OK, and Kathy Parsons and husband Steve of Tulsa, OK. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Mindy Schnitz and husband Jay, Melinda Scott and husband Nick, Donny Curry, Nancy Ross and husband Sam, Lisa Huddleston and husband Jayson, Kristina Beck and husband Lance, and Julia Parsons. In addition he is survived by ten great-grandchildren: Dillon, Michael, Laci, Brody, Amanda, Melissa, Kira, Wesley, Tyler, and Aubree; and two sisters: Iona Mazola of Wisconsin and Irene Sivley of Jones, OK. Services are at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 220 N. Seminole, Claremore, OK. Condolences may be sent through the guestbook on this page.
