Obituary

Dennis Nelson Mears, 66, of Tulsa, OK, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Tulsa, OK on December 20, 1948, the son of Albert Benton Mears and Leota Mears. Dennis is survived by his mother, Leota Mears; brother, Allen “Shorty” Mears and his four children, Stephanie Yandle-Mears of Tulsa, OK, Shelley Mears of Waxhaw, NC, William “Billy” Higgins of Tulsa, OK and Denise Mears-Fusco of Tulsa, OK; 6 grandchildren, Brandy & Tyler Yandle, Nicholas & Emma Mears, Abel Higgins and Dewayne Mears; 1 great-granddaughter, Lilly Yandle. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Albert Benton Mears and his brother Teddy Mears. Dennis grew up in Tulsa, OK, graduating from East Central High School. He was employed by Southwestern Trailers & Equipment and devoted his entire working career to the trucking industry. He was a loving father that was patient, kind and true, never asking for anything in return. His smile, laughter and words of encouragement will be forever missed. Not a day will go by that his memory will not be cast upon someone’s thoughts, he was that memorable to all. Viewing will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015, 10:00 am at Airport Free Will Baptist Church with a memorial service preceding at 11:00am. In Lieu of flowers the family requests outdoor plants so that his loved ones may plant a memory garden in his honor and as a reminder of his relentless fight against cancer.

    Dennis was my first love, a good friend, and a wonderful father to our girls. After fifty years of his being in my life he will truly be missed. He was dedicated to those around him and had more work ethic than any man I have ever known. He was simply the best! I will miss him always.
