Obituary
HAMILTON – Estelle Hope Hollis, passed away on October 17, 2007 at ClareHouse, Tulsa. She was born on March 31, 1923 to Clarence and Stella Hollis in Sulligent, AL. After graduating from Livingston State University. in Alabama she taught school for two years then went to work for the Governor of Tennessee in Memphis. After WWII she traveled to Nuremberg, Germany where she was a Classification Analyst for the U.S. government. Upon return to the United States she moved to Tulsa, OK where she worked for the Southwestern Power Administration where she met her husband Billy Joe Hamilton. They were married on January 13, 1951 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa and made their home here in Tulsa where Bill was a vice-president with Flint Steel. An active community volunteer, Estelle Hamilton served as president of the Tulsa League of Women Voters and was the first woman to serve as board president for the Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry. She also served several terms as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church and was active as a volunteer with the Tulsa City-County Library. In the 1980’s she completed paralegal training and worked for the Conner-Winters law firm for several years. She was also an active docent at Gilcrease Museum for many years. She is survived by: her husband, Bill; son, David Hamilton (Bernie Erickson) of Fargo, ND; daughters, Amy Hamilton (Buck Clary) and Kathryn Russell (Dannie) of Tulsa; 4 grand children, Nicholas Hamilton, Fargo, ND, Kathleen Hamilton, Moorhead, MN, Lauren Russell and Emily Russell of Tulsa; and 1 great-grandson, Ryan Hamilton of Fargo, ND; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents and 3 brothers, Kennedy, Harry and Clifton. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 27, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church. Memorials are requested to be sent to Hospice of Green Country, or ClareHouse or The League of Women Voters here in Tulsa.
