Frank Edward Owen

October 30, 1964 - May 21, 2023

Obituary

Frank Edward Owen, 58, known professionally as Frank Rising, left this earth unexpectedly on May 21, 2023. He passed away in his Tulsa, OK, residence from natural causes, most certainly exacerbated by a car accident 2 1/2 years ago in which he was hit by a drunk driver that left him wheelchair dependent. Frank was born in Trenton, MI, on October 30, 1964 to Dorothy Schneider and Ralph D. Owen.

Frank is survived by his daughter Brittany Owen of Patton, PA, daughter Larissa Owen Meray, her husband Lukus, and their two children Adalynne and Cooper, of Northern Cambria, PA, ex-wife Karen Weakland and her husband Larry of Patton, PA, ex-wife Roxana Worthington of Houston, TX, recent partner Lorna D. Fisher of Tulsa, OK, and her children, Gabriel, Anacarina and Lorelei Acuña of Houston, TX, and his precious cat KittyKitty. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, an estranged half brother, Richard Owen of Ocean Springs, MS, and three treasured cats Veen, GirlCat, and spiritual companion Squirrel.

Frank grew up in Frederick and Bowie, MD, where he was known as drummer Frank Wombat in the Maryland Doom scene, playing most notably with the bands Neptune Rising (Sean B. Peters, Johnny Morris, and Casey McKay) and Mist. Following a work-related, life redirecting spinal injury near age 30, Frank swapped drumsticks for a tape deck and transitioned his musical passions into taping live shows. A tie-dyed Deadhead, Frank was a fan of all types of live music, particularly Louisiana blues, Sun Ra Arkestra, David Crosby, Steve Kimock, and Jerry’s Middle Finger.

Frank earned his associate degree in psychology and was an ordained spiritualist minister and coach. He was a life-long student of spiritual studies, esotericism and metaphysical arts, master oil blender, and Appalachian root worker. As an Ancestral Bone Reader with more than 25 years divination experience, Frank touched many lives in profound ways. Truly, there were as many aspects to Frank as there were bones, shells and curios in his basket. Also known as Brother Racoon, Frank loved traveling, feeding feral cats and wildlife, and escaping to scenic mountains, caverns, beaches and streams.

In celebration of his life and spirit, Visitation with Viewing will be held from 3 to 5 pm on the Day of Saturn, June 3, 2023, at Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home, 2103 E. Third St., Tulsa, OK. Frank’s cremated ashes will then hit the road for a “Farewell Tour” to destinations where he loved, lived and travelled, including Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and California. You can follow Frank’s Tour through his birthday, 10/30/23, on IG @frank.rising.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider making a donation in his memory to your local no-kill animal shelter.
