Obituary

Hudson R. Meadors Jr.  was born on September 18, 1929 in Union, Louisiana to the late Aileen Moss and the late Hudson Meadors Sr.

Hudson was raised in Arkansas among family who remember him as being supportive and kind.  Hudson was a hard worker and early in his life took an interest in the insurance industry. He began entry level work and benefited as an apprentice under a skilled insurance agent. He soon learned every aspect of the business and successfully advocated for both equitable pay and promotion. Hudson was honored to be the first African-American licensed insurance agent in Oklahoma. Hudson realized the value of being his own boss, and birthed Meadors Insurance Agency. Hudson was a licensed insurance agent for over 30 years.

He married the late Verda (Rentie) Meadors on January 1, 1950. They celebrated 65 years of marriage on January 1, 2015. Verda and Hudson raised 3 sons, Hudson Meadors III of Los Angeles, CA; the late Randy Meadors; and Keenan Meadors (wife, Sherry) of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Hudson cherished the relationship with his only daughter, Andrea Hope Randle (husband, Ron)  of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Hudson had a special place in his heart for hissiblings: Gwen Williamson, Jack Moss, Henry Moss,  Mary Ann Bridges, the late Aileen Davis, the late Cleta Mae Moss, the late Doris Ivy, the late Nancy Ivy, the late Mose Moss Jr., the late Rufus Charles, the late Betty Moss, the late Peggy Dalcour and the late Bernitha Pea. In addition, Hudson will be missed by his 15 grandchildren, and a host of beloved great grandchildren. Hudson loved spending time teaching his grandchildren how to cook and how to have strong work ethic. He enjoyed teaching his great grandchildren how to drive and attended many of their events.

Hudson enjoyed  traveling. He traveled abroad to many places earlier in life including a trip to Spain and multiple trips to the Bahamas. He also enjoyed traveling to witness his grandson, Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Meadors during military promotion ceremonies in New York, Virginia and Texas. Hudson enjoyed many trips to see family in Louisiana and Arkansas. Hudson was the featured guest presenter during OptumServe’s, “I Have a Dream: Living Dr. King’s Legacy” in January 2020. During this session, Hudson presented to doctors, researchers and analyst about the lessons learned from his life’s experience.

Hudson was a member of the Crosstown Church of Christ and leaves a host of family and friends to cherish his memory.

  1. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you all. I'm a decendant of Jewell K. Meadors. I believe H.R. senior was his cousin. Sorry for your lost.
