Obituary

Bristow resident, Jim Hottal, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the age of 84. The youngest of five children, Jim was born to Frank and Adna Hottal in Harlengen, Texas on May 17, 1927. In 1953, Jim married the love of his life, Ann East, in Enid, Oklahoma. He graduated from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and went on to receive a Master of Arts in History from Pacific Union College in Angwin, California. The Hottals moved to Lodi, California in 1954 where Jim taught PE, Health, Driver’s Education, Government, History and Religion at Lodi Academy for 18 years. Their daughter, Jan, was born in 1958 and son, Rusty, was born in 1961. Mr. Hottal, as his students fondly called him, continued his career in education for 13 more years at Pontiac Junior Academy in Michigan, Sandia View Academy in New Mexico and Newbury Park Academy in California. In 1985 Jim and Ann moved to Bristow where Jim enjoyed working for Christian Record Services for the Blind and their National Camps for Blind Children. Jim was actively involved with the Bristow Seventh-Day-Adventist Church, the Ministerial Alliance, Lyon’s Club and Meals on Wheels. He also participated in mission trips to Mexico and Belize to build a church and orphanage. Jim loved to camp and travel around the country visiting family and friends. He was also passionate about sports, especially basketball, baseball and football. A loving husband, father and grandfather, “Papa Jim” is survived by his wife, Ann, daughter Jan Klepinger, son Rusty Hottal and wife Annette, granddaughters Serena and Annaliese Hottal and Kara Klepinger, and adopted grandchildren Judith Moore, Jae-Min and Jae-Yung Park and Scott Lee. Mr. Hottal’s memorial service will be held at the Bristow Seventh-day Adventist Church at 6th and Poplar on Saturday, October 1st at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to National Camps for Blind Children at www.christianrecord.org.
