Obituary

Joan Carr, 79, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away on August 17, 2021.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021, 1:00 p.m.,  at New Hope Assembly, 110 West 58th St. South, Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Carr was born on March 11, 1942, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

Joan worked at the Muskogee Veteran’s Administration for 8 years and worked as a medical records supervisor at the Sapulpa Indian Health Clinic for 14 years. Having received the call of God on her life, she followed her passion which was singing. She ministered in song from the early 70’s with several gospel groups including one with her sisters for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ola and Dutch Sourjohn, sisters: Ima Crum, Brenda Bradley, and Phyllis Walters; brothers, AR Billy and Teen Washington; and great granddaughter, Quinn Dowdy.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynette Deckard of Tulsa, OK, and Tracy (Chris) Splain of Tulsa, OK; son, Bobby Carden of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren: Rocky (Kylee) Battenfield of Ft. Gibson, OK, Hunter Splain of Tulsa, OK, Casi (Jason) Dowdy of Checotah, OK, and Kelli Deckard of Muskogee, OK; 9 great grandchildren, sisters: Patricia (J.C.) Crum of Braggs, OK, and Carolyn Rickner of Bartlesville, OK; and a host of family and friends.
