Joyce Caroline Townsend, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away December 10, 2016 at age 72. She was born April 3, 1944 Vian, Oklahoma to Joseph P. Gordon, Sr. and Elizabeth Smith.She is survived by her husband, John General Townsend along with other family and friends.

Joyce took me under her wing when I first started teaching at Foster Junior High in January of 1972. For over 10 years, we taught in adjacent rooms and she was my very best friend and mentor. When I transferred to the high school level, I missed her terribly, but over the years we drifted apart. However, she was the kind of friend who was always there for me if I needed her. Her passing leaves a hole in my life that will never be filled. My deepest condolences to John and Johnna, who has a heavy burden being an only child, and the rest of her family and friends.
