Obituary
Joyce Lorraine Brown was born on the 10th of August 1950 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma and departed this life on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Joyce was the only precious daughter born to the late Farris and Charlie Mary Thomas.
Most of Joyce’s younger years were spent in Chicago, Illinois before moving back to Pawhuska, Oklahoma in 1966. Later she met and married Dr. Gaylan L. Brown, Sr. To that union was born their four beautiful children, Natasha, Peggy, Gaylan Jr., and Angela.
Joyce was very intelligent and had a gift for memorization. She loved to memorize her Mother’s poems and recited them for our Military Troops, at nursing homes, and other special events. She had a quick and sharp tongue, but a heart of gold. If she had it to give, she did, and you were BLESSED if she fed you, because EVERYONE knew how she got down in the kitchen. She loved to travel, especially by luxury cruise liner.
Joyce worked for the state as a youth guidance counselor at Lloyd E. Rader Juvenile Detention Facility from 1989 until retirement in 2010. Her service there had a positive impact on the lives of the young men she cared for. Joyce met her longtime friend and companion, Leroy Bailey in 1991 while working together at Rader. They shared a very special bond and remained companions until the end. Leroy even became a bonus Papa to her grandchildren. Joyce loved cooking for him, playing bingo together, and genuinely cherished their relationship.
Joyce was a faithful member of Macedonia Fellowship Church under the leadership of her Pastor and cousin, Dr. Peggy Owens. Joyce dearly loved her children and helped raise several of her grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, one of the very best, and will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to meet and know her.
She is preceded in death by her father, Farris Thomas, mother, Charlie Mary Thomas, daughter, Tonya Sherrie Thomas, grandson, Michael Ray Johnson, and granddaughter, Paige Ann Borchert.
Joyce leaves to cherish her precious memory: her beloved children, Natasha Johnson (Reginald) of Owasso, OK, Peggy Hardman (Ru’Sean) of Beggs, OK, Gaylan Brown, Jr. of Tulsa, OK, and Angela Person (Orlando) of Broken Arrow, OK, thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brothers, Charles Thomas of Chicago, IL and Ike Robinson (Mary) of Gowrie, IA, Leroy Bailey of Tulsa, OK, along witha host of nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mrs Brown was one of my most passionate Sunday School participants. Always had great insight on the lesson and I always cherished her input. There will be a noticeable void in our services. RIP!
