Obituary

A baby girl was born 11-13-1920 to Amanda and David Shields; they chose to name her Mabel Marie. Mabel was born in just outside of Porter, OK. She attended school in Porter, OK before moving to Alsuma, where she continued her education. Mabel got saved in The First Little Holiness Church where Elder Franton pastored while Elder Forks was the visiting Evangelist who ministered that service. Mabel learned to play the piano for this church. Mabel met and married Henry Wm. Hurvey, Jr., September 6, 1938. Mabel had one biological daughter who is now so named Mrs. Doris Hurvey Kearney. Mabel also mothered and raised Henry Wm. Hurvey Jr’s., biological daughter who is now so named Ms. Georgene Hurvey Sayles. Later years Mabel began to sew and made a career of it. Mabel and Doris moved to Patterson, NJ. There she met and married Eulyses Sanders. In 1964 Mabel returned to Alsuma and united with a Church of God in Christ denomination. In 1972 Mabel moved to the Comanche Apartments. While at these apartments, Mabel began to minister to the other tenants to better their lives. She opened her doors for church services. Mabel also taught piano lessons. Mabel also attended various Pentecostal Holiness churches throughout her life. Mabel preached at every opportunity by God’s directions, including street ministry. Mabel included her grandchildren in the passing out of flyers on street corners. Mabel evangelized in many different states. Mabel’s mothers name was Amanda Minter Shields. Dad’s name was David Shields. Order of siblings oldest to youngest: Jessie Myers, Elvertus Shields, Edward Shields, Martha Belle Johnson, and then Mabel Marie Sanders. Out of all five siblings, the only one that is still alive is Martha Belle Johnson. Mabel has 4 biological grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Mabel Marie Sanders went home to be with the Lord at 3:30 p.m. on 3-12-11 at Southern Hills Nursing Home. God rest her soul. We love you.
