Obituary

Mr. Melvin Ray Davis passed into eternity Friday morning, November 7, 2014 Claremore, OK. Mr. Davis was born on April 25, 1931 in Claremore, OK to Othal Arthur and Inez Marie (Epps) Davis. He met his wife when he was nineteen years old. He and JoAnn were married a short time later. After retiring from the United States Postal Service, 28 years ago, he increased his bowling time to as much as 5 days a week. He bought cars, fixed them up and sold them to make a little extra money. Saturday mornings were often spent visiting garage sales with his brother Art, looking for good deals. Melvin was a wonderful husband, father and precious grandfather. He was much loved and will be greatly missed. Melvin is survived by his children: Melva Hawkins (Robert) of Broken Arrow and Larry Davis (Pam) of Tulsa; grandchildren: Eric Brown of Tulsa, David Brown (Jill) of Bixby, Jackie Chambliss (Danny) of Tulsa, James Hawkins (Missy) of Wichita, Kansas and Jason Davis of Sand Springs; great grandchildren: Cason and Kinsey Brown of Bixby, Payton and Brooke Chambliss of Tulsa, Abbie and Jacob Hawkins of Wichita, Kansas; Austin, Cierra and Brittany Davis of Sand Springs, along with a host of other loving family members and friends. Melvin is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn and parents Othal Davis and Inez Pottridge, better known as “Grandma Charlie.” Visitation will be Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Southeast Baptist Church in Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation in Melvin’s name.
