Merita was the very first woman in Kosovo to get a driver’s license. In 2000 she joined the Kosovo Police Service as a police officer. Her husband Douglas went to Kosovo in 2001 on a UN mission and worked in the same police station as Merita. They started dating in 2002 and in 2003 they got married on August 29. She stole his heart and he stole her from her country. They moved to Tulsa, OK in December 2003.In Tulsa she worked as a security officer at Promenade Mall.

Merita was an avid fisherman and was very good at it. She usually caught more fish than anyone she was fishing with. She would never pass up a chance to go fishing. She also loved to garden. She brought seeds with her from Kosovo and always had a bumper crop. She always grew enough to share with others. She had a very green thumb. But her greatest passion was gambling at the Hard Rock Casino. She said that was the only time she would not think about her cancer. She developed a close group of dear friends there and they had great times together. She also enjoyed singing Karaoke.

Merita became an American citizen in 2007. She loved America and her favorite holiday was the 4th of July. She loved the American flag and has clothing from head to toe of the American flag. Every year we would go watch the fireworks show and she had a great time.

Merita had a great sense of humor and was loved by most everybody that knew her. She will be greatly missed.
