Obituary

Copsie Thomas and Verley Bee Horn. He grew up in a busy household having four brothers and three sisters and spoke fondly of his childhood years. He often spoke of how he learned to read people well and get along with just about anyone. Mike graduated from Central High School in the bicentennial Class of 1976 and furthered his education by graduating from the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology.

At a park, peering through his sunglasses, he spotted his love (at first sight) Sharon Thomas, who he married on July 9, 1988.

Mike loved God, the church, and people. A devoted father and family man, he modeled Christian faithfulness and a servant spirit to his three children who loved and respected him: Lakisha Renee Thomas Dickerson, Sterling Michael Thomas, and Selton Michael Thomas.

For 30 years, Mike worked for State Farm as an insurance appraiser and enjoyed his work with the State Farm team. In addition to working conscientiously in his career, Mike dedicated time to intentionally doing good deeds for friends, neighbors, and family members, especially those with advanced age. As a father, he was a parent football/soccer coach. In the past, he served with the church prison ministry and most recently was active with the church youth ministry.

He liked staying busy and aimed for excellence. He kept a well-manicured lawn and garden which enticed neighbors to pause during their walks, and to linger and chat. Being a good steward, he often had his hands busy building and repairing things and keeping his vehicles clean and polished. If you ever stopped by his house and were lucky enough, you might have caught him creating a new recipe of which he would gladly offer a sample. He was quite a home chef. And, if you never got to taste his home cooking, you missed out on some good eating.

In Mike’s unforgettable words, “Everything is awright.”

He transitioned at the age of 62 on August 25, 2020. He leaves to cherish his fond memories his Loving Wife, Sharon Thomas, Broken Arrow, OK; daughter, Lakisha Renee Thomas Dickerson [Jacob], Blue Springs, MO; sons, Sterling and Selton Thomas, Broken Arrow, OK; sisters, Annie Gail Anderson, Chattanooga, TN, Connie Moore, Barrington, IL, and Cynthia Tibbs, Tulsa, OK; brother, Darrel George [Brenda], Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Lillian and Jacob Dickerson, Jr., Blue Springs, MO; father and mother-in-law, John and Barbara Clayton, Sr., Muskogee, OK; In-law siblings, Janice West [Terry], John Clayton, Jr. and Anita Clayton, all of Tulsa, OK; his Crosstown Church of Christ family, State Farm team members, and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Copsie Thomas and Verley Bee Horn; brothers, John McGhee, Willie Horn, and Robert McGhee, as well as his brothers-in-law, Nathanial Anderson and Larry Tibbs.
