Obituary

Nickie Karen Aughtry was born November 17, 1936 in Gainsville, TX to Robert Cullum Aughtry and Meekie Frances Wylie.  She attended schools in Gainsville and was a cheerleader all four years of high school.  She graduated from Texas Women’s University and taught in Duncanville schools for a short time.  Later she went to work in the retail clothing industry in Dallas TX, Loredo TX, Houston TX, and Tulsa OK, working her way up to the position of buyer.

Nickie loved to travel and was able to visit her sister and brother-in-law while they lived in Portugal, and her niece while she was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. with the U. S. Air Force.  She was also able to take her dream trip to Egypt.

She adored her animals, her cats Monster, Rameses, Ceasar and Cleopatra, and her three dogs including Gene Autry.

Nickie enjoyed volunteering as a Docent for the Philbrook Museum in Tulsa, OK for a few years.  She was a Founding Member of Real Church in Tulsa.

Nickie is preceeded in death by her late mother and father, step-mother Glenn Slagle Aughtry, and by her brother-in-law Joseph Gerald Yope.  She is survived by her dear sister, Bette Aughtry Yope, her niece, Sandra Leigh Yope, her nephew, Robert Michael Yope, and the following great nieces and nephews:  Gregory Dean Byerrum, Trixie LeighAnne Byerrum, Connor Ashby Yope, Michael Henri Yope, Joseph Antosh Yope, by her loyal dog, Gene Autry, and by many friends.

  1. Nickie was a great neighbor and friend during our years of living in Shannonwood. After we moved and I would be taking care of our condo she always greeted me with a smile and be interested in how Betty and I were doing as well as want to see pictures of our granddaughter. She will be missed.
