Obituary

On February 15, 1954 a baby boy was born to Floyd and Mavis Owens. He was given the name Orvelester Owens, affectionately called Lester and sometimes, “Double O”. Some of his hobbies include; fishing, anything outdoors, he enjoyed eating wild game and he loved to landscape. He served in the US Army and his status was E-4 Infantry. He served in Germany and was Honorably Discharged in 1976. In the 1980’s Lester worked for the Corp of Engineers in Ft. Gibson. Lester was a “Jack of all Trades” and worked in many various fields. At one time, he served at the Whatley Funeral Home in Purcell, OK; he also worked at the sale barn and Lester practically landscaped all of Purcell. Lester joined a Methodist Church in Purcell, where he was a faithful member. He received Christ in his life and later moved back to Tulsa and joined the Ambassador Center where he served as a loyal and dedicated member. Orvelester Owens Sr. leaves to mourn his passing; his beloved mother, Mavis Owens of Tulsa, OK; the mother of four of his children, Deborah Owens Armstrong; children, Sherina Owens of Tulsa, Seiglinde Owens of Tulsa, Mavis (Tweedy) Owens of Tulsa, Chris Hill of Washington, DC, Hillard Hook Owens of Texas, Ezra Owens of Tulsa, OK and Titus Owens of Tulsa, OK; he also leaves behind 10 brothers and sisters, Barbara Ann Thompson, Marsh Moore, Charles Melvin Owens, Carolyn Ingram, DeWight Owens, Maurice Owens, Angela Williams, Jackie Tolbert, Sheila Pete and Michael Owens; Lester also has 9 grandchildren whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Owens; his son, Orvelester Jr. “O.J”; brother, Stoney Owens, and sister, Patricia Younger. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Viewing with be on Tuesday from 9am till 8pm.

  5. To the Owens family: I was saddened to hear of Orvelester's passing. I found out after his services were held. We grew up in the same neighborhood and on the same street (29th Pl N). We also went to the same Jr High & Sr High Schools. He was a class ahead of me. My thoughts & prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
