Obituary

Rachel Cole Whitney, 85, passed away at her home on September 12, 2010, after a long illness. She was born on August 19, 1925 in Welty, Oklahoma to Sammie, Sr. and Oma (Mills) Cole. She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years (just a few days shy of 33 years), John Whitney; three daughters: Jane Miller; Susan Stanford (Clyde); Judy Hawes (Richard); grandchildren: Michelle Ritchie (Phillip); Wayne Miller (Lisa); Matt Miller (Robyn); Dax Demers (Brooke); Monica Thomas (J.R.); great-grandchildren: Lauren;Hannah; Melissa; Tiffany; Kayleigh; Dustin; Sierra; Dalton; Charlotte; Max; Xander; Abby; brothers: Joe Cole (Jean); Sam Cole (Sharron); sister: Ida Winder. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Theresa Ann Cole. For most of her adult life, Mrs. Whitney was a seamstress and tailor. She enjoyed sewing and made clothes for her children. She also excelled at quilt making. She had many hobbies and interests in life, including fishing. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, with favorite destinations of Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Alaska. Mrs. Whitney’s family was extremely important to her. She was often in charge of her siblings while her parents were working. Later, she was a single parent raising three girls. She met this challenge and overcame many obstacles. She will be remembered for her love, her courage, and her strength. Viewing will be at from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at Stanleys Funeral Service, 3959 E. 31st St., Tulsa. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at Stanleys Funeral Service, with Reverend Scott Schlotfelt officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Haven Cemetery.
