Obituary

Richard was born Jan. 13, 1918 in Verden, OK. the son of Richard Brady and Ola Belle (Craddock) Brady. He graduated from Gueda Springs High School in Kansas, attended Wichita State University and graduated from Arkansas City Junior College. Entering the Navy in 1938, Richard was assigned to the destroyer USS Drayton, #366, where he served throughout WWII. He left the Navy in 1945 with the rank of Chief Electricians Mate. Richard married Helen Inez Nunn on June 10, 1947, in Okmulgee, OK. After the Navy, he started work as an electrician at the Eagle Pitcher zinc smelter in Henryetta, OK. In 1952, Richard became a powerhouse electrician for the Corps of Engineers at Ft. Gibson Dam, transferring to the Tenkiller Ferry Dam powerhouse in 1955, then to the Eufaula Dam powerhouse as Assistant Superintendent in 1967, retiring in 1977. Living in Sand Springs, OK. during his retirement, Richard indulged his many interests; Fishing, hunting, cultural and sporting events, and travel. Richard and Helen made 5 trips to Hawaii, several Caribbean cruises, and many other trips to most of the commom destinations within the U.S. He loved to attend his gradchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, rarely missing any. He enjoyed visiting and reminiscing with his former shipmates at USS Drayton reunions. He was a member of American Legion Post #0317 of Porum, OK. Richard is survived by his wife; two sons, Raymond Gene Brady and wife Maralea, and Randall Glen Brady, both od Sand Springs; one daughter Beverly Renae Walsh and husband Terry of Chouteau, OK. 7 grandchildren, Richard Don Walsh and wife Cathy, Randall Glen Brady, Jr. , Michael Ray Brady, Chad Alan Walsh and wife Kellie, Derrick Wayne Brady, Patrick Aaron Brady, and Rachel Ann Brady; four great-grandchildren, Rebecca Renae Walsh, Jacob Brady Walsh, Jayden Dakota Brady, and Gillette Lee Walsh. 2 brothers, James Orgel Brady and Joe Brady and wife Patricia; one sister, Betty Lou Davis. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Edward Brady. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am ~ Tuesday ~ August 7, 2007 in the chapel of St. Anna at Saint Simeon’s Episcopal Home. Services are under the direction of Cremation Society of Oklahoma.
