Roger Lee Yates was born on 3/9/1934 in Ocheydan Iowa and raised in Lyman County, South Dakota, born to parents Thomas F. Yates and Bertha (Knapp) Yates. Roger was surrounded by a large and loving family. Roger spent his formative years near the White River in South Dakota where he developed his love of fishing and hunting, primarily walleye and pheasant. Roger served in the South Dakota National Guard and answered his country’s call for service, honorably serving in the United States Army. He attended South Dakota State University and he would later work for, and retire from, Northwest Airlines.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Bertha Yates, his daughter Judith, his sister Jean (spouse-Smokey) Charlton and his favorite hunting dog, Shadow.
Roger is survived by his Wife, Patricia Ann (White) Yates, Daughters Holly (Spouse-Don) Thorpe, Dawn (Spouse-John) Carlson, Sherry (Spouse-Steve) Stevens, step-daughter Laura Walker, step-son Chris Walker, sisters Lois (Spouse-Don) Dobberstein, AnnaMay (Spouse-Stan) Nissen, Joyce (Spouse-Dale) Loftis, Bonnie (Spouse-Doug) Haugom and his brother Robert (Spouse-Velma) Yates. He is also survived by grandchildren Brandi, Melinda, Jeremy, Bryan, Nicole, Sarah, John and Brandon, great-grand Olivia, Camdon and Sunny and numerous nieces and nephews.Viewing for Mr. Yates will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 04, 2019 at Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home. 2103 East Third Street.
