Obituary

Roger Ray McCormack was born on May 18, 1966 to Elena Shockley and Kenneth McCormack.  He was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Tom and June Daugherty that he called Mom and Dad.  Roger was a boy full of life and a loving heart. Every day if you asked Roger how he was doing he would say he was blessed and so are you.  On March 23, 2017 Roger went home with the rest of his family before him to be with the Lord.  Roger always referred to Heaven as home.

Roger holds a vocational degree in Welding. He attended Rogers State University in Claremore;where he had a dream to one day become an Alcohol and Drug Counselor for the youth. Roger had a paper route from 1979 to 1984. He would later work for his dad who called him “Sam” at Maverick Service Company. Then he worked at Verde Vista and Green Country Lawn Service as a professional landscaper. Roger had a passion for the outdoors and landscaping despite his bad allergies. Roger always signed a letter with the initials. M.M.L.J. This stood for Make me like Jesus. Roger was a loving man with a tender heart.  He prayed daily to “The Man Upstairs” as he called God. 

Roger loved all sports and he played them all including baseball, basketball, football, and wrestling where he played on the varsity team his senior year where he graduated from East Central High School in 1984. He raced dirt bikes and motorcycles and placed a few times in same races. His biggest love was music where he played the drums. He loved all music, but it was the rock and roll of the 80’s that stole his heart. Not a day would go by that music was not heard and sung by him. Roger loved to fish, be around family, and go to church.  He loved to stay busy. His personality only added to his charm and good looks.

Roger was married twice. He was a free spirit that just could not be held down. He had two children; a son, Roger, who was his pride and joy and even though he wasn’t a part of his everyday life, he was loved dearly as well as his daughter by choice, Ashley, who he loved regardless along with his family. Roger loved his family very much. He enjoyed his nieces and nephews. Roger had a nickname for every family member.

Roger held a passion for people. No matter where he lived he always found a church home. Roger was a social person. He was the guy that would walk down the street looking anyone and everyone in the eye and say “hello”. If it was an older women, he would always say “Hello young lady” making them smile. He knew no stranger. Roger was the type to see someone trying to do something and if it looked like they needed help he just stopped and did it. He just wanted to always help someone with something. He would always shake people’s hand. He could remember people’s faces and names making friends with each step he took.

He loved to tell jokes, and was so eager to tell you the latest one he learned which of course he would always laugh at the punch line before telling it. His laugh was infectious and he could have you laughing for a while just because you heard his laugh. He was a loyal brother, and you never messed with his little sisters. Only he could do that.

Roger is preceded in death by his father Tom Daugherty; mothers, June Daugherty, Elena Shockley; and brother-in-law, Diego Flores, Sr.

He is survived by his daughter Ashley Nicole Helmke Wilson and husband Daniel of Catoosa, Oklahoma; son, Roger Ray Siau of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Lucille Annette Wilson, Nikolai David Wilson; sisters, Tonya Lee Carter de Flores of Ft. Worth, Texas, Darlene Mishelle Carter Holland of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

Services will be held on Friday, April 7th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Crowell Heights Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free I’m following the path God has laid you see. I took His hand when I heard him call I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way I found that peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee God wanted me now; He set me free.
