Obituary
Shirley Jean Hornsby Renfro was born on December 27, 1942 in Altus, Oklahoma and passed unexpectedly on June 20, 2021 at 78 years, 5 months in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was predeceased by her mother, Emma Eva Stout Hornsby, father, Robert Lee Hornsby, sister Wanda Hornsby and brother Robert Hornsby. She is survived by the love of her life and soulmate, Johnny Edward Renfro. Shirley and Johnny were married on March 3, 1970 and were together for 51 years and 3 months. Shirley and Johnny have a large family that she loved so much. She is survived by their 7 children: Rita Jencks and husband Jack Jencks of Edmond, Oklahoma; Glen Renfro of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Michael Renfro and his wife Kim of Caseyville, Illinois; Kevin Renfro and his wife Stephanie of Norman, Oklahoma; Lisa Lowry and her husband Russell of Wellston, Oklahoma; Thomas “Moe” Renfro and his wife Angela of Denver, Colorado; Christy Jordan of McAlester, Oklahoma. Shirley is survived by 26 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren and counting. She always joked that she needed to write all the grand and great grandchildren’s names down so she could remember them there were so many.
Shirley and Johnny lived in their dream location on Lake Eufaula. Shirley loved to have all of her children and grandchildren come to the lake for holidays, especially 4th of July. There was always a big party, lots of fun and fireworks.
Shirley loved animals of all kinds. She always had animals, both wild and domestic that she loved to watch and care for. Peacocks, Guineas, Turkeys, Koi, Tortoises and her beloved dogs. She had raised Mastiffs in the past who became beloved members of her family. She loved nature and the outdoors. She loved to sit on her back porch and watch the birds and any other animal that might wander across her yard. She loved sharing pictures of all the wildlife with her family on Facebook. Shirley loved to fish. She would sit on the boat and troll for hours for catfish, crappie or sand bass, or go bass fishing with Johnny and her children.
Shirley loved to travel by car with Johnny. Their favorite trips were shared taking the scenic route around the country together. She could ride for hours. In the early 80’s Shirley drove a semi truck with Johnny cross country. There wasn’t much she couldn’t do. She could handle the big rig as well as anyone. Shirley was happy being with Johnny, no matter what they were doing or how hard they were working. Johnny recently retired and they planned to spend retirement traveling together.
The family will have a celebration of her life at their place at Lake Eufaula on the July 3, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
