Obituary

Sonney Dean Carter “Sunshine,” of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Sonney was born on May 13, 1962, in Tulsa, to James and Jean Carter. On May 25, 1989, Sonney married Jenie Diane Scott. Sonney loved being a mechanic and teaching the kids to work on cars; and teaching us to ride dirt bikes. He loved collecting hot wheels, going to flea markets, & definitely fishing!! Everyone remembers trot-line right?! Oh yeah we do because we’ve ALL been there & done that, huh!! But most of all, he loved being with his family & friends … listening & dancing to loud music; all while playing football with a cat named Garfield. Need a good scare? Sonney was there! Jason mask, chainsaw & ail!! He worked at Danny’s Auto Salvage 18 years. Sonney is survived by wife- Jenie Diane Carter: 3 sons – Chris Scott & wife, Jessica: Sonney Carter Jr. & wife, Mandy: Ray Carter Sr. & wife, Dolly: 1 daughter – Crystal Oliver & husband, Gary Sr: 11 grandchildren – Christiffer Williams, Ray Carter Jr, Kyle Carter, Sara Oliver, Kevin Carter, Kristen Carter, Cody Carter, James Carter, Gary Oliver Jr, Chris Scott Jr, & Mariah Oliver. In addition he is survived by 3 brothers – Robert Carter of Tulsa: Kenneth Carter of Tulsa: Terry Carter of Sand Springs. Also many nieces & nephews who he loved & they loved him dearly as well. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Carter & Jean Arleta Williams-Carter: and a sister, Barbie Jean Carter. Services will be Friday, February 28, 2014, at 11 a. m. at Butler Stumpff Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor John Gamble. Pallbearers are: Chris Scott Sr, Sonney Carter Jr, Ray Carter Sr, Gary Oliver Sr, Dennie Jenkins, and Jimmy Jenkins. Honorary Pallbearers are: Emory Scott, Josh Winters, Robert Scott, Eric Scott, Austin Winters, & Steven Winters. Visitation will be Thursday, February 27, 2014, 5:00- 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner, Oklahoma at 1 p.m. on Friday, following the funeral, under the direction of Butler Stumpff Funeral Home. Memorial contributions and gifts may be made to : Jenie Diane Carter and/or Ray Carter Sr.

  2. I remember Sonny was in Longfellow and OSD I knew his brother Robert and his late sister Barbie.. I want to say so sorry that Sonny has passed on.. I contitue prayer for the Carter family. God bless you all.
