Stacey Leon Ward

July 07, 1962 - April 21, 2020

Obituary

Stacey Leon Ward, 57, passed away on April 21, 2020, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  His funeral service will be held virtually at 11 A.M. at www.gutschurch.churchonline.org on Saturday, April, 25, 2020.  Stacey was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Ernest Leon Ward and Patrichia Anne Ward on July 7, 1962.  He spent his entire life in Tulsa with the exception of a short stint at Connors State College where he played baseball and was known for his left handed pitch and dug out antics.  Stacey was a hard-worker who carried that skill over to many trades but officially started his dream career with the Tulsa Fire Department in 1985.  Throughout his 24 years of service, he built a reputation of being a reliable and fearless firefighter who wouldn’t let anything get in the way of saving lives and fulfilling his duties.  The best example of this is how quickly he surrendered his vacation time to volunteer to help rescue efforts after the Oklahoma City bombing. Stacey was also most certainly the one who would bring a smile to your face when you needed it most.  He was constantly making people laugh, ensuring everyone was having a good time, and truly just cared deeply for every person he met. Stacey faced a motorcycle accident in 2007 that left him paralyzed which is the only reason he chose to retire in 2009.  The trials he faced after his accident never phased his outlook and he spent his days ensuring everyone knew how blessed he was.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and is survived by his brothers Terry Ward and Brian Ward and their families and by his daughter, Kayla Ward Hingle, son-in-law Nicholas Hingle, granddaughter, Hattie Hingle, and son Dalton Ward.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Hydrants of Hope or Oklahoma Firefighters’ Burncamp in memory of Stacey Ward.

Please be on the lookout for a celebration of life in his honor later this summer.

  3. I just learned that my hero, my love, & trusted best friend friend since 2004 went to heaven at 57 yrs old, Stacey Leon Ward. He was EVERYBODY'S hero as a brave, determined, & dedicated Tulsa Firefighter. First responder at the OKC bombing. Had a chuckle like Santa Clause. Always did random acts of kindness for me. He loved Jesus. And despite a freak motorcycle accident on his beloved Firefighter edition Harley in 2007, he ALWAYS remained optimistic. I became a paralegal in 2014 to help fight for his settlement due to legal malpractice. I changed cell phone providers recently & he didn't have my new number yet. He raised probably the most beautiful daughter of a gentlemanI have met, Kayla Hingle. Who he was very proud of as class valedictorian, homecoming queen, impressively talented engineer, that gave him his grandbaby. His son Dalton is equally Kool! I am feeling devastated right now because I will miss him. I always felt a little more safe in this harsh world knowing Stacey was ALWAYS in my corner & on my side. I do know that in our last conversation a couple of months ago, and as ALWAYS, I told him HOW MUCH I loved him & that HE WAS MY HERO. A few years into our friendship, I got my guts up to write him a letter with a mixed CD of thoughtful songs to propose we date. (Our song was Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About") But he said he did not feel worthy of ME. Oh, how VERY WRONG he was. Such an OUTSTANDING man, big love of my life, & best friend. I will miss you TERRIBLY my hero!!!

  4. Stacey was everyone’s HERO. Mine for sure. He had a humble servants heart, loved Jesus & his children, & all of Tulsa, with a Santa Clause chuckle & smile. I am so upset he’s not hear. I loved my hero Stacey so MUCH!
