Obituary
Stephen Mays “Steve” Haynie, a 72 year-old retired Truck Driver, passed away in his Tulsa, Oklahoma home Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Steve was born March 11, 1941, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Mays and Velma Geraldine (Williams) Haynie. He attended Mingo Elementary and East Central High School where he played football and basketball. He attended Mingo Baptist Church and later became a member of Garnett Church of Christ where he drove a Sunday School “Joy Bus” for several years. He loved working with polo ponies, and, in his younger days, took pleasure in motorcycle riding, water skiing, and being a part of racing pit crews. In his later years, he enjoyed golf and loved animalscats, dogs, and horses, especially. Steve was a quiet man of few words, but when he spoke he was usually right. He was known as “The Grouch” that became softened by a Cowgirl and a Blondie. He believed there were two ways to do anything: his way and the wrong way. And, he loved throwing out old expressions like, “You mess with the bull; you get the horn,” or “Don’t let your tiger mouth overload your hummingbird behind.” [Edited] He had two major vices: watching marathon episodes of NCIS and coffee. Steve is survived by his wife Betty; son Shawn; daughter-in-law Teresa; granddaughters Tiffany Haynie and Tara Near and her husband Justin; great-grandchildren Carson, Ryne, and Presley; sister Jerri Ann Eckles; several nieces and nephews; and Quigley and Rascal, his rescued dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tom Haynie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Donnie Ray Crawford Racing Memorial Fund. Condolences may be sent through the guest book on this page.

Dear Betty Jo, Shawn, Teresa, Justin, Tara, Tiffi and our little ones: Our hearts are broken for you. It makes no difference the timing or circumstances of losing a loved one…it hurts. We are here for you, forever, to help fill the void in your lives…just as you are here for us. Hopefully, with our broken hearts, together, we can help each other feel whole and live our lives knowing that one day soon we will be with God and our loved ones. We love you all so very much.
