Obituary

Terry Martin Barnes, 74, was peacefully called home on December 3, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born on June 17, 1950, in Boley, Oklahoma, to Johnnie Lee Barnes, who preceded him in death. Terry was raised with love and care by his cherished grandparents, John and Fannie Barnes, whose guidance he fondly remembered throughout his life.

Terry graduated from Boley High School in Boley, Oklahoma, in 1967. He married Glenda Faye Barnes, and they were blessed with three children: Allie, Kenya, and Charnita. Later, in 1986, Terry found his soulmate, Elversa Louie Barnes, who also preceded him in death. Together, they welcomed a beautiful daughter, Terri Reynolds, and Terry embraced three wonderful bonus children: Derek Walker, who preceded him in death, Nikila Beard, and Nina Melendez. Terry was a devoted member of Christ Gospel Church West Archer for many years, where his faith flourished.

After high school, Terry served his country in the United States Army for one year and five months. During his military service, he received several honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. His dedication and commitment were a testament to his character.

Terry built a career at American Airlines and later retired from Ford Motor Company. Even in retirement, his work ethic led him to spend time trucking over the road, a profession he enjoyed deeply. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Terry’s personal life was filled with meaningful hobbies and interests. He loved playing chess, listening to jazz and blues, watching action movies, and traveling with his family.

Terry’s memory lives on through his beloved children: Nikila Nichole Beard (husband Dwight Lenal Beard Jr.), Nina Eusheka Melendez (husband Alfonso Melendez), Terri Reynolds (husband Kenneth Reynolds), Charnita Stephens (husband Rodney Stephens), Kenya Barnes (wife Natalie Barnes), and Allie Barnes. He also leaves behind his siblings: Dasol Mashaka (wife Paulette Mashaka), Larry Phillips, Donnie Phillips (wife Shirley Phillips), Cheryle Rivers (husband Dossie Rivers), and Michael Barnes (wife Christy Barnes). His legacy extends to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Terry’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
