Obituary

Travis Dewayne Turner was born on December 10, 1960, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Charles and Rose Turner. He was affectionately named “Boo” by his big sister, Charlene. At an early age, Travis was baptized at the North Peoria Church of Christ where he was a faithful member until he was called to His Heavenly Home.

Travis attended McLain High School and graduated with the Class of 1979. A dedicated athlete, he played both basketball and football, helping lead his team to McLain’s first-ever State Championship in 1978. During his senior year, Travis was elected amongst his peers as Lord of the Clan. After graduating high school, Travis went on to attend the Tennessee State University. Following in his father’s footsteps, he attended Oklahoma State Technical College in Okmulgee, Oklahoma,

and obtained his Journeyman Plumbing License.

For over 40 years, Travis worked alongside his father, building their family business, Turner Plumbing. In 1991, he joined American Airlines as a Facility Maintenance Mechanic Plumber, where he remained a dedicated employee for 33 years. He was a proud and active member of the Civil and Human Rights Committee for the TWU union and the African American Employees Resource Group (AAERG), always striving to uplift and support those around him.

In 1997, Travis met the love of his life, Sharon, and the two shared a beautiful journey together.

Outside of work, Travis enjoyed playing golf and hanging out with his family and friends. A mentor to many, he took great pride in guiding the youth of McLain, and in 2023, he was honored with induction into the McLain Athletic Hall of Fame.

Travis was greeted in Heaven by his grandparents, his parents, and his beloved sister, Charlene Pipkins.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sharon Tolbert Turner, daughters: Kanika (Jeremy) Lee of Grand Prairie, TX, Brandi (LaKeith) Offord of Dallas, TX, Leah Thomas of Tulsa, OK, Brandy Tolbert of Tulsa, OK, and Marshan (Rodger) Stephenson of Tulsa, OK; sons: Billy (Sherell) Jones of Tulsa, OK, Brandon Jones of Houston, TX, and Kenneth (Meyosha) Parker of Houston, TX; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters: Rosie (Anthony) Henderson, Tara (Randal) Colbert, and Traci Cullins, all of Tulsa, OK; his countless nieces, nephews, and cousins (who were raised together like siblings), along with other relatives that will never forget the impact he made on their lives; God daughters, Kenya and Crystal; and his partners in crime, who worked on everyone’s plumbing, Mike Hill and Sammie Heard.

To know Travis was to know his laughter-an infectious, unforgettable gift he inherited from his father. Like his laugh, his spirit and impact will not be forgotten.

Visitation for Mr. Turner will be held on Friday, February 21, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., at Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home, 2103 E. 3rd St., Tulsa, OK 74104.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 11:00 a.m., at North Peoria Church of Christ 2217 N Peoria Ave, Tulsa, OK 74106, followed by interment at Crown Hill Cemetery.
