Obituary

Troy Cannon Ray Sr. was born on August 23, 1949 to Horace Cannon Jr. and Dorothy Mae Ray in Porter Oklahoma. He met a Galveston girl; fell for her and so married Ellen Rose Richardson on December 19, 1970 in LaMarque, Texas. To this union five children were born: four sons – Troy Canon Jr. (T.J), Trent Cannon (Duck), Terrance Cannon (Tiger) and Horace Cannon III (Pony); and one Daughter – Deanna MiChelle (Sweesie). Troy was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Patricia Deanna Ray. Troy symbolized his dedication to Jehovah and was baptized as one of His Witnesses on July 28, 1964. Shortly after his marriage, he was met with a test of faith. Because of his strong spiritual convictions, he refused to participate in war and was so imprisoned for 18 months, serving as a conscientious objector in Seagoville, Texas. In the years of 2013 and 2014, Troy served as a regular pioneer, devoting 70 hours a month in preaching the Kingdom News. His goal was to attend the Pioneer Service School, which however was postponed. His service also included active ministerial duties in the Peoria Congregation. He and Rose served as “Day-Watchmen” while this Kingdom Hall was under construction. They referred to this duty as “baby sitting” the Kingdom Hall. He leaves to morn his wife Rose, his 5 children, two daughters-in-law: Jennifer and Jessica Ray, his son-in-law Shane Hale, and his granddaughters Alize’ Nicole and Ameriah Rose. He also leaves one grandson Bryson Jordan and a great-grandson Alexander. Troy will be missed by a great host of family, relatives and spiritual friends!

You and your loved one will be in my thoughts and prayers.

  2. Rose you and your family are in my prayers. We look forward to the time when Jehovah will call our love ones from their sleep. I was fortunate enough to share with you and Troy the early days of your marriage and I have some very fond memories of your courtship, wedding, trips to Segoville and the birth of your first son TJ. I love you Rose "forever my big sister" and I pray that Jehovah hold you and your family up and sustain you as you grieve the loss of your dear Troy. (Ronnie) in Texas City.
