Obituary

Valda L. (Brown) Nelson, 84, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away December 21, 2012. She was born April 16, 1928 in Colgate, Oklahoma to John A. and Evangeline (Ryan) Brown. In 1945, she met Warren G. Nelson, who became her husband on May 31, 1946. In high school Valda was an excellent basketball player, scoring 25+ points a game. After marrying, Valda and her husband moved to Tulsa in 1951. She worked in the cafeteria at Celia Clinton, Cleveland Jr. High and Will Rogers High School. Valda has been a faithful member of the Lewis Avenue Free Will Baptist Church since 1952. The avid shopper she was, Valda loved collecting eagles, owls and praying hands. She enjoyed spending time with her family; taking her grandchildren to amusement and water parks. She loved to travel, Warren and Valda visited Hawaii, Acapulco and Okinawa to list a few, she also enjoyed attending the 8th Air force reunions and events with her husband. She is survived by her son: Teddie L. Nelson; grandchildren: Rachel Zehr (Tom), Jessica Hetrick (Mike), Capt. Rabecca Stahl (Krestyn), Sara Nelson, Amy Welling (Mike), Jacob Nelson (Roy Bell) and Zachary Nelson (Amber); great-grandchildren: China, Tabbi, Liz, Johnathan, Nicholas, Christina, Samantha, Austyn, Charly, Catheryn, Makayla, Alexis, Isaac, Lane, Alan, Emma and Logan. Valda is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Warren, on September 16, 2009; her parents: John and Evangeline Brown; two brothers: John L. Brown and Roger A. Brown.
