Obituary

Willa Mae Mack was born September 22, 1921 in Gilmer, Texas to Judge Canyon and Ada (Williams) Canyon. She was the youngest of five children. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death. Willa grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from Valley View High School in 1941. She obeyed the gospel under Gene Derrick. She left Texas and moved to Kansas City, Missouri with her sister Bertha Derrick. She met and married Lacie B. Mack on April 7, 1949. They were married 38 years. To this union three daughters were born: Lois, Lavora and JoAnn. Willa was a great example of a Christian woman. She visited the sick and shut in, called members, sent cards and always had words of encouragement. She loved to attend worship service, church events and lectureships. Her Christian faith remained strong. Willa learned to drive at age 66 – this gave her new found freedom. She was confident, independent, but always relied on God. She loved the outdoors, flowers, mowing her yard, traveling, doing puzzles and taking care of her cat Sammy. She had a great fashion style and was known for her hats. Willa was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend. She loved the church and especially the saints at North Peoria where she was a member for 53 years. We will miss her but will be ever grateful and thankful for having her influence and love in our lives. On Monday November 28, 2011, Willa was called home. She leaves to cherish her precious memories three daughters: Lois Walker (Lewis) of Chandler, Az, Lavora Mack of Houston, Tx and JoAnn Mack of Tulsa, Ok; five grandchildren: Felicia Mack, Erika Mack, Chad Verner, Karen Walker and Lewis Walker, III; step-sister Martha Jones of Dallas, Tx; many great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A special thanks to family friend Dan Logan.
