Obituary

William Gene “Bill Jensen, age 92, longtime resident of Tulsa, passed away January 21, 2022.  He was surrounded by family.  He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Harriet Jensen, who is the love of his life.  He is also survived by his children: Nickie Jensen Burns and Doug, of Norman, OK; Norman Jensen and Sandra, of Tulsa; Paul Jensen and Jeffery Donaldson of Tulsa; and Anne (Jensen) Lee and Nathan, of Stillwater, OK. He is also survived by his grandchildren:  Eric and Snow Burns, Whitney (Burns) and Tom Willard, Jason Jensen, William Jensen and Crystal, Brittany Lee and Nicholas Lee.  Also, great-grandchildren:  Calvin Burns, Camille Burns, Weston Willard, Alexander Jensen, Aurora Jensen, and Jaxon Davidson.  In addition, he is survived by his two brothers, Steven Jensen and Michael Jensen of Wisconsin.

Mr. Jensen was born August 8, 1929 to Clarence E. and Edna Murphy Jensen.  He grew up in Cushing, Wisconsin, and worked at his dad’s hardware store throughout his childhood. A proud Veteran, he served his country in Korea, and met his bride while stationed in Farmville, Virginia.  He was a pioneer in computer programming in the days when computers were the size of small houses.  He often said that he became somewhat of an expert in the field because he was the only one who read the manuals.  He spent his career in banking and accounting, working for National Bank of Tulsa and Burroughs Corp.  He ran his own tax service until well into his eighties.

Mr. Jensen was a devoted husband, and a loved and loving dad and grandad.  He loved singing and playing music and could  often be found playing his ukulele at the Olio at Tulsa Spotlight Theater. He was a longtime member of All Souls Unitarian Church He was a member of the SPEBSQSA and the Tulsa Founders Chorus, and sang tenor for the Oil City Slickers quartet.  His dedicated service with the Lion’s Club lasted over 40 years, and he volunteered in many civic organizations, including the Civil Air Patrol.  He also loved golfing, sailing, and flying.  Above all, he was kind, honest, and hard working. He was ever the gentleman, and had a gentle soul.  His great joys in life were loving Harriet with all his heart, and enjoying his family.  His humor and grace and devotion will be missed beyond measure.

There will be a memorial service at a later date.  Bill was never much on flowers, so donations may be made to Lions Meadows of Hope, lionsmoh.org.
