The Journey of Mrs. Willie Marie Brown

On May 17, 1945 a beautiful baby girl was born to Will Taylor and Mary Edwards. They named her Willie Marie Taylor, she was the youngest of 4 children. Marie attended George Washington Carver High School in Waco, TX and graduated in 1964.

She met the love of her life Bert Brown at the young age of 18 and they have been inseparable ever since. They married in 1965 and to this union two children were born Sonji Evette Brown in 1966 and Bert Brown Jr. in 1967.

Marie answered to many titles; wife, mother, grandma, Aunt Marie, Nana, and Ms. Brown to so many. She was always smiling and laughing with a bubbly and sassy personality. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved ones, watching baseball, attending church, and always enjoyed a good western. She had a heart of gold and took care of everyone. She was a faithful member of 31 years at Sanctuary Evangalistic Church where she and Mother Jefferson were apart of the initial start up of Nana’s house.

Marie was preceded in death by her father Will Taylor, her mother Mary Taylor, 3 siblings; Marvin, Loraine, and Jimmie and two cousins raised as siblings Robert Earl Bagsby and Clint Colbert Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Bert Brown Sr., 2 children Sonji Brown-Tarver (Daryl) and Bert Brown Jr., 6 grandkids Edward (Hammer), Matthew Mayes, Sierra Brown, Cliffton Tarver, Bert Brown III (Trey), Myah Tarver, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives many of which spent early period of their lives guided by her. Her home was the birth of the original Gathering Place in Tulsa OK.

This is where you line up and make your remarks or tell stories about Willie Marie, Aunt Marie, Nana, or Mrs Brown… but you don’t have to keep it to three minutes😘

We the family understand that funerals are not open during this Covid 19 pandemic. In lieu of that, we are asking for friends, family and loved ones of Willie Marie Brown and in Honor of Our Father Bert Brown Sr., that donations or offerings are sent to Sanctuary Evangelistic Church where they have served for countless years.

Mom, know that I love you, I’ve loved you from the first day I met you and I will always love you. Thank you for including me in a family filled with love. Since you loved baseball so much, When we’re able to go see baseball games in person, I’ll go see the Chicago Cubs and White Sox’s in your honor. I’ll see you one day on the other side. Say hello to Marilyn for me.
