The Journey of Mrs. Willie Marie Brown

On May 17, 1945 a beautiful baby girl was born to Will Taylor and Mary Edwards. They named her Willie Marie Taylor, she was the youngest of 4 children. Marie attended George Washington Carver High School in Waco, TX and graduated in 1964.

She met the love of her life Bert Brown at the young age of 18 and they have been inseparable ever since. They married in 1965 and to this union two children were born Sonji Evette Brown in 1966 and Bert Brown Jr. in 1967.

Marie answered to many titles; wife, mother, grandma, Aunt Marie, Nana, and Ms. Brown to so many. She was always smiling and laughing with a bubbly and sassy personality. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved ones, watching baseball, attending church, and always enjoyed a good western. She had a heart of gold and took care of everyone. She was a faithful member of 31 years at Sanctuary Evangalistic Church where she and Mother Jefferson were apart of the initial start up of Nana’s house.

Marie was preceded in death by her father Will Taylor, her mother Mary Taylor, 3 siblings; Marvin, Loraine, and Jimmie and two cousins raised as siblings Robert Earl Bagsby and Clint Colbert Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Bert Brown Sr., 2 children Sonji Brown-Tarver (Daryl) and Bert Brown Jr., 6 grandkids Edward (Hammer), Matthew Mayes, Sierra Brown, Cliffton Tarver, Bert Brown III (Trey), Myah Tarver, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives many of which spent early period of their lives guided by her. Her home was the birth of the original Gathering Place in Tulsa OK.

This is where you line up and make your remarks or tell stories about Willie Marie, Aunt Marie, Nana, or Mrs Brown… but you don’t have to keep it to three minutes😘

We the family understand that funerals are not open during this Covid 19 pandemic. 1. To the family of Sister Brown. I am sorry that I can't come to be with you physically but I would like to say that I am sorry for your loss of a woman that I considered a friend, protector, gate keeper. I will miss her along with so many others. Much love you Elder Brown and your family. RIP Sister Brown.

    Uncle Bert, Sam & Hobo:

None of us is ever truly ready for death. The comfort is in the knowledge that Aunt Marie is in a better place. No more pain and suffering. No more sorrow. No more worries about the mundane things that occupied her mind. Our faith and strength is this family's bond. Memories and thoughts are our comfort during this time of sorrow. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Love Always,

    Tony

Marie will be greatly missed. I will always be greatful when she saved me from a well-deserved "whoopin" from Bert, when I spent the night at their house as a kid. Thanks again Marie. Not only did Marie have a big heart, she had sense of humor. One day Sonji and I was towing my car to the shop so we could come home to visit our family. Well some other things transpired and I got pinned between the cars. So we had to call the parents to tell them I had gotten injured and we couldn't come home. Marie said, I would have been okay if I had hit my head. I was in so much pain, but I could not stop laughing. Marie made tough situations not seem like the end of the world. Thanks for the love and the laughter, Marie. God give her family strength through her homegoing.
