Obituary

Barbara Ann Meadows was born to Jesse James and Willie Mae Howell Fletcher in Denison, Texas. She was raised in Texas and Oklahoma. Barbara being the oldest daughter stayed home from school to help with her baby brother Jimmy after he was born. She broke both her legs when she was 10 years old falling off a hay truck, but she was determined and soon learned to walk again. Barbara moved around with her family hauling hay, and picking cotton as a child. She worked for a short time as a waitress in Denison and Sherman Texas. Barbara’s family moved to Coweta, Oklahoma and there she met and married Richard Burchett. The relationship was not meant to be and ended in divorce within a few years. Barbara spent some time in Georgia with a friend named Charles Austin. She returned to her family and stayed with her sister in law, Dorothy in Arkansas for a short time helping out with her children. Eventually she came back to Oklahoma and married Gerald Fletcher. They spent time in Durant, Ok Denison and Sherman Texas before returning to Coweta, Oklahoma. They made a home for themselves in Tulsa for years as she raised their two children. She loved sewing, quilting, listening to country music and gospel music. Barbara was quite the salesperson on and off the flea market grounds buying and reselling things. After 20 years of marriage she divorced again and began enjoying her life spending money on herself by doing her hair, buying country music cassettes and CDs. In 1993 she married Richard Meadows and they made their home in Coweta, OK. Later in life they moved to Muskogee for a few years before settling in Tulsa, OK. Barbara had learned to trust God and have faith in him as a child. She carried that faith with her throughout her life. She enjoyed swap meets, garage sales and auctions. She loved collecting everything from dolls to hot wheels and jewelry. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, former husbands Richard Burchett and Gerald Fletcher, her sister Lola Payne and husband Ray Payne, her brothers Herbert Fletcher, Don Fletcher, Kenneth Fletcher and his wife Carol Fletcher as well as her son, Gerald Fletcher Jr and numerous other family members. Barbara is survived by her husband, Richard Meadows of the home. Her brother Jimmy Fletcher of Tulsa, her daughter Frances and husband Mike Love of OKC, her son Jimmy and wife Alicia Fletcher of Mounds, OK. Her grandchildren; Augusta and husband Mandla Kakubo of OKC, Wilbur Clark and girlfriend Stephanie Davis of Tulsa and Gerald Allen (JD) Fletcher of Mounds, OK. Her great grandchildren; Xavier King of Wagoner, Jordan Clark Weinacht of Broken Arrow, Kyle Clark of Tulsa and Mandla Prince Kakubo of OKC, as well as numerous other family members and friends. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2019, 10:00am, at the Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home Chapel.
