Obituary

Gerlad Andrick Colbert was born to the union of Theodore and Inez Colbert on September 21, 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Gerald passed away on January 14, 2024. His parents and eight siblings preceded him in death.

Gerald attended Booker T. Washington High School and later in life he was employed at American Airlines for over 17 years. He received awards for being an outstanding employee. He later retired and focused on his health.

Gerald enjoyed reading, writing, and listening to music. He was also a patron of The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., receiving his name on a plaque.

Gerald met Dian Gordon when she was 17 and he was 18. A year after dating, a son was born, and they named him DeAndry. After 17 years, they decided to go their separate ways and continued to be good friends. Later, Gerald met Cecelia Owens and a son was born, they named him Jermon.

Left to cherish Gerald’s memory is his brother, Frenchie Colbert of Arizona. Two sons, DeAndry and Jermon, two great grandchildren, Zaire and Amina. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

  1. I met Gerald thru my husband, Warrendell Mayes. He grew up in the same neighborhood as the Colbert’s. He would tell me how he ate Ms. Colbert’s food that was good and spend lots of time at their house. He looked up to Gerald and the nice cars he would drive. I use to tell Gerald that if he put on wig he would look just like Brenda his oldest sister and he would just laugh. He will be missed
