Obituary

Iceola Marie Armstead Scott departed this life on January 25, 2024. She was born into this life on October 31, 1923 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the Reverend Sam and Luella (Munson) Armstead. She grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma graduating from Manual Training High School, a school that instilled high achievement in its students and carried with it a motto that included social, emotional, spiritual, economic and physical well-being. Iceola embodied those principles and later graduated in 1953 from General Hospital Number 2’s nursing school in Kansas City, Missouri. Iceola had a career in hospital nursing for 18 years, retiring from Kansas City’s St. Mary’s Medical Center in 1971. After retirement, she continued to work in private duty nursing until her final retirement in 1985.  Accepting Christ at an early age, her faith and love of the Lord was of utmost importance and as an adult she attended Good Samaritan Baptist Church in Kansas City and later became a longtime member and the longest living member of Paradise Baptist Church in Tulsa where she served in the Sunday school, the True and Tried Mission Circle, the WMS Chorus and the Golden Age Club until her health began to fail.

Iceola loved her faith and also fashion as she was known to wear the biggest hats and highest heels accented by her stunning costume jewelry and red lipstick. She loved reading her bible. She enjoyed baking, getting many requests for the best sweet potato pie and peach cobbler.  She was always open to try new things and to have new experiences; enjoying bingo with her daughter Mona, bowling and traveling, she lived life to the fullest. She was a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs fan and wore her favorite color red on every game day. She loved her family fiercely, being a strong voice and a straight shooter, she was known to say “Amen” after many a spoken message and on occasion when needed, gave a gentle forewarning of “I’ll shoot you and cry all the way to your funeral”. When she could no longer leave the home, she enjoyed watching ministry, Westerns and the Chiefs on television, narrating her colorful and candid life stories and being with family.

A beloved matriarch to a big and boisterous family, she leaves to cherish her legacy and memory, her children, son Rosmond F. Scott Jr., daughter Mona D. (Donald) Gibbs and son Jerald W. (Anita) Scott, all of Tulsa; 10 grandchildren, Ken Collins Sr., Alfonso Collins, Antoinette Grice, Jacob Gibbs, Vickie Gibbs, Rosmond Scott III, Raquel West, Miracle Johnson, Hope Johnson, and Winslow Scott; 30 great-grandchildren (and 1 on the way); and  24 great-great grandchildren; and 1 great-great- great grandchild, her only living first cousin, Johnella Thomas of San Francisco and sister-in- law Gloria Island of Taft, Oklahoma and many extended family and friends.

Preceding her in death is husband Rosmond F. Scott Sr., daughters Costella Green and Hortense Harris, grandsons Henry Williams Jr. and Carlton Harris, sister Lucinda Armstead and her parents.

A visitation will take place on Monday, February 5, from 3pm-7pm at Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home

Services will be held on Tuesday, February 6, at 10AM at Paradise Baptist Church.
