Visitation for Ms. Hooks will be held on Friday, January 26, 5:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m., at Butler-Stumpff & Dyer Funeral Home.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, January 27, 12:00 p.m., at Northside Christian Center followed by interment at Green Acres Memorial Gardens.

Jewel Hooks, a beacon of strength and wisdom, died peacefully in her home on January 13, 2024 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 89. Jewel Hooks was third born to Olivia & Theodore Hawkins in Gibson Station, Oklahoma on December 28, 1934. Jewel’s life was a tapestry of unwavering faith, love, and service to others.

Jewel accepted Christ at an early age and blossomed to be a strong prayer warrior as she attended and served at Northside Christian Center. In her earlier years, Jewel married Sylvester Hooks, their union reflected shared values of family, entrepreneurship, and faith. Throughout Jewel’s life she maintained a kind, nurturing and genuine demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. Who, even now, are inspired by Jewel’s walk of courage and faith through trying times. Her signature gift of strength, shown through her gentle smile, steadfast spirit, and comforting words, will never be forgotten.

Jewel worked for Hillcrest Hospital as a nurse aid for 25 years, she also was an entrepreneur of various businesses and eateries in the Tulsa community. Jewel enjoyed caring for family and friends through delicious cooking and baking from scratch and her perfection of a sweet potato pie. Her life outside of work, spearheading events in the community and family was rich with the simple pleasures like gardening, quiet walks communing with God, and sharing joyful memories. Jewel was a bold woman of strong faith and loved by many. She will always be remembered for sharing her wisdom, her worshipping spirit and the love she gave to others.

Jewel Hooks is preceded in death by Olivia Hawkins (Mother), Theodore Hawkins Sr. (Father), Rosie Tillis (sister), Willie Nelson (brother), Mildred Hawkins (sister), Margie Hawkins,(sister), Ella Minter(sister),Theodore Hawkins, Jr. (brother), Melvis Minter(brother),  Erma Minter( sister) , Christopher Deloney (son), Patricia Hooks (daughter), Michael Hooks (son), Sylvester Hooks Sr. (spouse), Pamela Hooks-Trimble (daughter) and Kim Hooks (daughter).

Jewel Hooks is survived by sisters: Juanita Hawkins, Elaine Hawkins, Debbie Hawkins, Marsha Hawkins.

Brothers: Donnie Hawkins, Todd Hawkins.

 Children: Sylvester Hooks Jr , Sharon LeFlore, Tracy Hooks, Timothy Hooks and host of other relatives and friends.
