The Journey of Mrs. Willie Marie Brown

On May 17, 1945 a beautiful baby girl was born to Will Taylor and Mary Edwards. They named her Willie Marie Taylor, she was the youngest of 4 children. Marie attended George Washington Carver High School in Waco, TX and graduated in 1964.

She met the love of her life Bert Brown at the young age of 18 and they have been inseparable ever since. They married in 1965 and to this union two children were born Sonji Evette Brown in 1966 and Bert Brown Jr. in 1967.

Marie answered to many titles; wife, mother, grandma, Aunt Marie, Nana, and Ms. Brown to so many. She was always smiling and laughing with a bubbly and sassy personality. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved ones, watching baseball, attending church, and always enjoyed a good western. She had a heart of gold and took care of everyone. She was a faithful member of 31 years at Sanctuary Evangalistic Church where she and Mother Jefferson were apart of the initial start up of Nana’s house.

Marie was preceded in death by her father Will Taylor, her mother Mary Taylor, 3 siblings; Marvin, Loraine, and Jimmie and two cousins raised as siblings Robert Earl Bagsby and Clint Colbert Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Bert Brown Sr., 2 children Sonji Brown-Tarver (Daryl) and Bert Brown Jr., 6 grandkids Edward (Hammer), Matthew Mayes, Sierra Brown, Cliffton Tarver, Bert Brown III (Trey), Myah Tarver, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives many of which spent early period of their lives guided by her. Her home was the birth of the original Gathering Place in Tulsa OK.

This is where you line up and make your remarks or tell stories about Willie Marie, Aunt Marie, Nana, or Mrs Brown… but you don’t have to keep it to three minutes😘

My Aunt Marie will be so missed! She's my mother Jimmie's sister, and has been such a loving, positive person my entire life. Her easy smile always lights up every room she enters. Aunt Marie always had a listening ear, and open arms and heart. People were always drawn to her bubbly and fun personality. As I child I LOVED when she came to Texas to visit, because the fridge would be stocked with Pepsi just for her, and she shared freely!😃 It was my drink of choice for many years because of her.
She has been a mother to me when I needed, and no one can ever replace her.
I love you Aunt Marie. ?

  2. My deepest condolences!

  3. My loving Brown Family,

We are so very saddened by the passing of “Grandma Rie”. She was one of the nicest, spunky, sassy and energetic women l know!! She welcomed me and my son, Matthew Anthony Mays, (Her first grandson) into the Brown family with all the love she had to give. It was like gaining another mom!!! The relationship between Grandma Rie and Matthew was a very close one. He knew he could talk to her about anything. He loved her on a whole other level. I loved her too. I find comfort in knowing she is with Jesus, free of pain/suffering! She will never be forgotten!! Brown family (Papaw Bert, Sonji/Darryl and Bert jr.), we love you and we are praying for you!! Jesus has welcomed Grandma Rie with open arms! She is peacefully at home!! Rest In Heaven… Another Angel is home!
